MY SISTERS OFFERS A LITTLE HOPE IN THE WORLD

Our starting p point should be: Why not? For in that perspective we dare try new things.

By Anne Birgitte Haahr Andersen, volunteer in My Sisters, 2008

This is Danish Solveig Bjørnholt Knudsen opinion. She is 40 years old, is a nurse, and has been a Counsellor in My Sisters since 2005 as she came to Ethiopia with her husband and three children. Danish Evangelical Mission has sent them as a missionary family.

Met the founder of My Sisters
In Ethiopia she met Marit Bakke, the founder of My Sisters, who asked her to join the work. Marit Bakke went to Norway to continue fundraising, and in consequence Solveig Bjørnholt Knudsen got the role as Counsellor in My Sisters.

Gives inspiration and new thinking
My work at My Sisters consists of giving advice concerning our present activities and to give inspiration and new thinking, she says. I take care that the staff are well trained and keep on acquiring new skills.

Solveig Knudsen likes her job very much. My work fits perfectly to what I like working with. For the last few years we have been working very much on the facilities and planning of furnishing according to need. This is a challenge that suits me well.

Make efforts to do our best
When asking Solveig Knudsen if My Sisters makes a difference, the answer is yes, without hesitation.

My Sisters makes a big difference, she says. To the clients, but also to the staff some of who are former clients educated in My Sisters. And it doesn't only make a difference, financially. It means that the clients need not be alone, but they are part of a larger solidarity.

My vision is to hang on to the development already started. We shall strive to do our best and adjust our work according to the needs of the clients, she says.
